drop-down menu not showing on website after FF update

more options

After updating to FF 56.0 Firefox failed to load pages in the second, third ect. tabs. Loading pages worked fine in the first tab. So I did a few basic things like installing again and the problem was gone but then my present issue started:

Drop-down menus do not appear when clicking on the website button that should roll out these menus. I'm working through this freelancer site https://www.peopleperhour.com and some of the most important functions I could only reach through the drop-down menus which do not work right now. I tried Chrome and Edge browsers and the drop-down menus on the above website do not work in these browsers either. I tried drop-down menus on a different site and they work. I have already tried the below things and none of them solved the problem:

- started FF in safe mode, - used the Refresh Firefox feature, - re-installed the latest FF 64bit (since I'm on windows 10, 64bit) - turned off hardware acceleration, - enabled popup windows, - made FF "forget about this site", - made sure my java is up to date, - unplugged my mouse and plugged in again, - checked through all the options and settings, - googled the problem and read posts about similar issues,

I no longer know what else I could do to fix this. I have already lost hours trying to find a solution and I can't continue working through the site without the drop-down menus. Let me know if I can share any more info that can help you find the problem. I'm using Firefox on PC, windows10, 64bit.

Thank you,

Chosen solution

Do a malware check with several malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.

Please scan with all programs because each program detects different malware. All these programs have free versions.

Make sure you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

You can also do a check for a rootkit infection with TDSSKiller.

Thank you cor-el,

I will do this - though it may take a while till I go through all of the above, I will get back with the results. I do recall now that shortly after I had the first problem I had a few weird and unwanted windows pop up in Firefox that could have to do with malware. Windows defender did not give any warning though so I forgot about it and did not connect it with my problem..

I started by doing a complete scan with Windows Defender which did not find any threats. Then I installed malwarebytes, the first one on your list and it detected 39 malware. After putting these in quarantine my problem was gone and the drop-down menu now works as it should!

Thank you, this solved my problem quite quickly and nicely!
