This computer is Windows 7 Premium, up to date. Automatic install of Firefox 57 hung after typing 1 character into Google (which is home page). I read some advice here, then updated the graphics drivers (ATI Radeon), searched for and updated all other Windows updates, rebooted. No effect. Shutting off add ons worked so decided to also try reinstalling. Did a reinstall, same thing. Did another reinstall after completely deleting the Mozilla Firefox directory in Program Files, no effect. Then did a refresh, the browser worked for about 5 minutes and started hanging again. Did another refresh and no effect. We have another HP Pavilion Slimline, it has a different brand of hard drive and a different graphics card (it's an NVidea), it works fine there even with add ons (the same add ons on both machine). The only difference in browser settings before this started was this machine had had custom browsing history turned on and didn't save history.

Additional information: If I logoff on this machine and logon with another user, so that the browser profile is completely separate, I get the same behavior exactly.
