In fact it's fairly simple. Swipe-left should give a letter K and swipe-right a letter J. (The keyboard shortcuts are here: https://www.bettercloud.com/monitor/the-academy/9-keyboard-shortcuts-in-gmail-that-will-make-you-more-productive/
