If I view a PDF through a web link, how can I find this file on my (Windows 10) PC? I assume it's stored in some Firefox temporary directory but I don't know the directory name to navigate to and cannot find a way to use Firefox to show it to me.

Thanks, Dan

The best way would be to save the file while you are viewing it.

My question was not how to save the file but where is it stored. Thanks anyhow.

This may be what you want;

Location used for the disk cache and other temporary files in "AppData\Local"

  • C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Mozilla\Firefox\Profile

If the file is opened in a Firefox tab and uses the builtin PDF Viewer then the file would be in the memory cache or in the disk cache. Only files passed to an external application are stored in the temp folder. You could check the about:cache page to see if you can find the file in the cache.

Though I do have this path on my HDD, the pdf file I was viewing in FF was not in the cache you pointed to. Thanks anyhow.

I did see some strange files named _CACHE_001_ and _CACHE_002_ ...etc... with a timestamp approximately when I was browsing the PDF, but I was unable to open them.
