When I move an email in a personal folder back to the inbox, it does not move the right content. Header info is right (correspondence, subject, date) but the actual content is from an email from 2 years ago that was not filed in any personal folder. The reason I am moving back to inbox is so that I can respond to it. I am not able to respond to emails that are stored in personal folders.

Before anything else make sure you do have a recent backup of your Thunderbird profile folder. https://support.mozilla.org/kb/profiles-where-thunderbird-stores-user-data#w_backing-up-a-profile

Then try to rebuild the index file of the troubled folder. Right-click the folder - Properties - Repair Folder

I am not able to respond to emails that are stored in personal folders.

Why not?

I have had this happen with other personal folders as well. Not unique to this one folder.

Regarding the problem of not being able to reply to emails in personal folders: When I hit the reply then send, I get prompted to enter my password. I enter my password then get a message that send failed.
