Firefox is NOT remembering my passwords. Just began.

I checked the only other response that I see (about:preferences#security), which I cannot enter as a URL.

I lost all of my logins/passwords tonight, after reinstalling v 66.0.2. I created a couple of passwords, including here. They are NOT in my saved logins. That has never happened before.

I always save logins. And I always update my logins when I change them.

This is becoming tedious.

Thank you.

Chosen solution

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link}

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

What about the rest of your profile? settings, bookmarks . . . .

Are you using any password add-ons/programs?

Look on your desktop. Do you see a folder called; Old Firefox? Look inside. Look for the folder with the latest creation date.

Settings and bookmarks are perfectly fine.

Not using anything.

I just reinstalled FF. Why in the world would I have issues w/the same addons I had before I reinstalled the same version of FF?

*Silly question*?

I will test one of the four in Safe Mode. If it's not the one I don't need, I am done with Firefox.

Thank you.

The additional links are great, but not necessary for now. Ty.

This was beautiful. My old passwords are back. It can't be Adblock Plus or FB Privacy. Or HTTPS Everywhere. Especially the first two.

Thank you, Fred.

Did you know THIS would happen? FYI - I had added a "return to top of page arrow" which was different from the one I had earlier today (I think Mozilla removed it). It was the only addon that I removed. That did the trick, as I had to change my email password *again,* & it was saved.

Happy Camper!

It's hard to say. There are many things it might have been.

In the event that the passwords information is lost, you should record all information in a separate text file somewhere else on your hard drive, or written down. You can easily copy and paste if you need to do so. If you are concerned about someone else looking at that file, you can compress it using a password.

Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles.{web link} I use an add-on that makes backups of my user profile, Just In Case. Unfortunately, it is not compatible with the current Firefox.

Every now and then, open the profile folder and create a copy of the current profile as is to another location on your hard drive. This way you will have a backup.

If you do this each day, you will not lose much data. This should be done with Firefox Closed.

Note: In case you need to restore from these backups, you may need to overwrite old or corrupted files.

FredMcD,

"It's hard to say. There are many things it might have been." It seems to me that it was the Return To Top add-on.

I mentioned my favorite add on up there ↑ - FEBE, which stopped working quite a few versions ago. Mentioned I tried Nir Soft, tonight. Had trouble opening the .exe.

I never found a substitute, nor did I develop a new habit.

Your post above: "...Backup & Restore..." is a very helpful and concise post. Following your suggestions will be my next new weekly project.

You done good! Thank you.

I love FEBE, and my other add-ons as well. That is why I will not upgrade from my v54.

You should remove any Legacy add-ons. At the current thinking at Mozilla, they will never work again.

Pitty.

What program and what was the problem?

Or it could be Hardware Acceleration. How to disable Hardware Acceleration {web link}

Type about:addons<enter> in the address bar to open your Add-ons Manager. Hot key; <Control> (Mac=<Command>) <Shift> A)

In the Add-ons Manager, on the left, select Extensions. Disable a few add-ons, then Restart Firefox.

Some added toolbar and anti-virus add-ons are known to cause Firefox issues. Disable All Of them.

If the problem continues, disable some more (restarting FF). Continue until the problem is gone. After, you know what group is causing the issue. Re-enable the last group ONE AT A TIME (restarting FF) until the problem returns.

Once you think you found the problem, disable that and re-enable all the others, then restart again. Let us know who the suspect is, detective.

I have no legacy addons. I provided the four that I had.

Passwordfox. Error: "Failed to initialize the decryption library of Firefox." I also was rushed, so its conceivable I should have pointed it to a different profile. Inconsequential now.

I marked this as solved. That is why I attributed it to the up arrow add-on.

Did you catch that?

Thank you.
