One year is a long time for a Firefox Account to sit unused. Sync was never intended to store a users data for the long term; the idea is to keep the users data updated every time they open Firefox on one of their connected devices. You made no mention of a 2nd device being used with the PC which was sold.

I have a hunch there's more to your problem than what you have stated thus far.
