I've lost all my login passwords , bookmarks and every single thing that can be synced. For some reason I had to reinstall windows so I made sure that I had synced everything in Firefox. But when I reinstalled Firefox and logged in , everything was gone. There was nothing that I had synced and it wasn't there even in the restore option in the bookmark menu. Can anyone please help me to get my synced Items back?

Chosen solution

Do you possibly have a "C:\Windows.old" folder with your previous personal data ?

Firefox uses two locations for the Firefox profile folder, so make sure to look in the correct location. Location used for the main profile that keeps your personal data (Root Directory on about:profiles).

hello

Current Firefox releases use key4.db for the key file (encryption key and master password). The logins.json file stores the encrypted names and passwords.

You need to copy both files from the "Old Firefox Data" folder on the desktop or from another backup to the current profile folder with Firefox closed.

You can use the button on the "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page.

Help -> Troubleshooting Information -> Profile Directory: Windows: Show Folder; Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder

I reinstalled windows so obviously I won't have any of those keys. The data present there is new and built today only so I lost everything on Firefox as well as my faith from Firefox sync. Thanks for replying though.

hii Prakhar

that is to be expected, you have lost the token that was associated to in Sync when you reinstalled or what ever you did in 4 months. Sync is not a backup service. One device to another and that is what it is for during a session of syncing, not 4mos later. When not Syncing disconnect you devices from the account. Sync does not replace doing backups :

I did not mention about 4 months anywhere infact it was only a time lap of 24 hours. I installed Firefox in the same device not a different one. All I did was reinstalled my windows. Thank you so much for replying.

Hi prakhar,

Firefox automatically creates a backup of your bookmarks and history. You can restore them by following steps:-

  • Click on Menu icon.
  • Click on bookmarks icon.
  • Click on Show All Bookmarks.
  • Click on Import and Backup.
  • A dropdown menu will be open, choose restore from there.
  • Choose a date of which you want to restore history and Bookmarks.

Unfortunately,This is Last option. Thanks for raising your question in Mozilla Support Forum.
