Set Default to open links in a new Tab - Does Not Work

Hi, When I click on a link on a page, I want it to open it in a new Tab and leave the page I'm on alone.

Instead, it overwrites that page with the new one, and I have to hit the back button to get back to that original page (and sometimes the back button get grayed out and I can't get back at all).

I've tried checking the box for: Open links in tabs instead of new windows but that doesn't do it. Then I tried checking the box for: When you open a link in a new tab, switch to it immediately, and that doesn't do it either.

I know that a work-around is to hold down the Ctrl key while clicking a link, but I'd like to set it as a default so I don't have to do that.

Any ideas? Thanks!

Chosen solution

All settings via Options/Preferences or directly via about:config apply only to links that specify a target window. You can divert such a link to a new tab or new window. Links that do not specify a target window wil;l aalways open in the same tab and you need to override this yourself via Ctrl plus left-click or a middle-click or via the right-click context menu.

Thanks! I didn't know it was the link that was in-control.
