INSTALL ON ANOTHER LAPTOP
I am having issues with my main laptop so I am trying to install Thunderbird on my backup laptop. I set it up with the same settings as the main laptop, however, Thunderbird will not connect to my Google Mail. It keeps asking for a new password. The main laptop accesses Thunderbird OK with these settings. I reinstalled Thunderbird to no help. What am I doing wrong?
Chosen solution
I presume you are trying to set an IMAP gmail account.
1. Thunderbird must be an allowed program in the Firewall settings. 2. You must have cookies enabled in Thunderbird.
- Select 'Menu app icon' > 'Options/Preferences'
- In 'Options/Preferences' left Pane select Privacy & Security
- Select checkbox 'Accept cookies from sites'
3. If not created: New> Existing mail account
- Enter name
- enter full gmail email address
- enter password
- select the remember password checkbox
- click on 'Continue'.
Thunderbird will locate the gmail server configuration and auto create as IMAP using OAuth2 as Authentication Method.
Once created you will be prompted by gmail to provide username and password (same one you use to access webmail account) to allow Thunderbird access to server. Then a token is saved in the stored passwords and used by gmail from then onwards to auto synch to server.
4. If already created: Check you are using these server settings: Right click on imap account name in Folder Pane and select 'Settings'
- Incoming server name: imap.gmail.com
- port: 993
- User Name: full email address
- Connection Security: SSL/TLS
- Authentication Method: OAuth2
- Outgoing server name: smtp.gmail.com
- Port: 465
- User Name: full email address
- Connection Security: SSL/TLS
- Authentication Method: OAuth2

Thanks Toad-Hall. This resolved my issues and I am now able to access my Google email accounts. George
