Thunderbird: shortcut configuration

Hi,

I am a long-time (former) Thunderbird user. It's (still) my favorite email client, and even though I haven't used it for the last several years I've continued to donate to the project - you can verify this: I just donated today (Transaction ID: 8fedbenq).

The thing which has pushed me away is the inability to define my own keyboard shortcuts. This was formerly provided by an excellent third-party addon, but has been impossible since 2019. I guess I'm old, and unable or unwilling to adjust my muscle-memory to new workflows.

I would like to use Thunderbird again. Is shortcut configuration (natively, or by an addon) part of your product roadmap?

First, thank you for being a regular donor. I was just reading today that fewer than 1% of users ever give anything at all. So, a BIG thank you. Second, Thunderbird improves with each new release, and 102 was a significant forward leap. And, if you're not using Thunderbird, you're missing its many features and the fruits of your contributions. I encourage you to jump in and experience all that is new. I am just a volunteer and not part of any inner circle, so I am clueless on what you request, but I think you will enjoy what's there today. And thee are lots of shortcut keys around.... https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/keyboard-shortcuts-thunderbird?redirectslug=keyboard-shortcuts&redirectlocale=en-US#w_writing-messages

There is an add-on for setting keyboard shortcuts: tbkeys-lite. The reviews section contains several tips.

@sfhowes, I've tried several keybind extensions in the last couple of years. The one you recommend may have been one of them, as I recognize the name. Each I've tried has had stability problems and/or has presented security concerns. Are you running tbkeys-lite? How has it been working? I note that it hasn't been updated in ~six months

@david, Thank you. I appreciate the reply. I am aware that there are several sets of key bindings, unfortunately none of them quite match my keybindings.

I don't use tbkeys on a regular basis, but haven't noticed any stability issues. I'm not aware of any legitimate security concerns that differ from any other add-on. It's intended for advanced users.
