I had emails setup with pop3 for years and didn't know pop3 stores emails locally on pc.

After that recently I had to setup emails again and this time logged in with imap and since then i am unable to find the previous emails I had for years. Is there any way that i can retain those emails which were setup with pop3?

with an iMAP account, you have access to all messages on the account. With POP, it is typical to download to PC and then delete from server. Assuming that is what your prior POP account was doing, the old messages cannot be retrieved. However, if the POP account is still on your PC, you can move the folders to Local Folders.
