the bookmarks on my bookmark toolbar are being deleted or duplicated. Is this a virus?

When I opened Firefox the bookmarks on my bookmark toolbar appeared in the wrong order. When I tried to rearrange them, several deleted themselves and others duplicated. Since then, every time I open Firefox other bookmarks on the toolbar duplicate or delete. This looks like a virus to me, but I'm using Firefox on Ubuntu, and never had a problem with a virus before.

This can be a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.
