Why does Firefox make my computer produce "chirping" sounds?

more options

When I use Firefox, my computer randomly makes "chirping" sounds every 3 to 10 seconds. If I open the Windows "Volume Mixer", I can see a column labeled "Plugin Container for Firefox". Whenever I hear the chirp, there is an little "blip" on the plugin volume display.

The plugin container is used to keep some plugins separate when they run.

You need to find out what plugin is running, and what is causing it to run.

  • :-) Also be aware of other common reasons for chirping, besides birdsong, such as battery powered smoke alarms and mobile phones.

I clicked on Tools/Add ons and the Add-ons window popped up. There were 12 add ons listed. I disabled all of them and the chirping stopped. I continued to use my computer and I re-enabled them one-by-one. I waited 3 or 4 minutes between enabling individual add ons. The chirping didn't came back. I think that a better course of action would have been to disable them one-by-one to see when the chirping stopped. Oh well.....
