First of 2 problems I cant close any tabs unless I have 3 or more open theres no close button secondly cant type anything when I open a new tab firefox just freezes (Windows 7 64bit)
I have no way of closing a tab unless 3 or more tabs are open theres no x to close individual tabs it only appears if i open a 3rd tab. Also when opening a new blank tab I cant type anything.

Do you have that problem when running in the Firefox SafeMode?
A troubleshooting mode.
You can open the Firefox 4.0 SafeMode by holding the Shft key when you use the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut. Or use the Help menu item, click on Restart with Add-ons Disabled... while Firefox is running.
To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before using the Firefox shortcut to open it again.

Using google chrome instead with no problems firefox stinks compared to it in speed. I open Firefox first then Google Chrome chrome loads faster even tho it was opened after opening Firefox first. No freezes and tabs work perfectly on chrome. I'm so disappointed in the new firefox i'd rather use Internet Explorer so many people having problems with the final release chrome is leaving it behind now what was a good browser is now crap. And as for security chrome is much more secure.
