Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

Open Firefox -> Help Menu -> select "Restart with Add-ons Disabled"

Firefox will close then it will open up with just basic Firefox. Check if its working. You can enable the Add-ons later.

My problem is solved before reading this answer ( sorry ) by removing all the add-ons that were said not suitable for firefox 5 and removal of a probably by my son installed obscure toolbar. after this a fresh startup and all OK.

Some users are finding it is the Babylon toolbar causing this, anyone wish to confirm this, or say something else causes the problem ?
