Firefox keeps running in the background, and cannot clear Cache after turning off Firefox
After shutting down Firefox, it keeps running in the background. This creates a Problem when trying to clear the Cache, etc.
Why does it keep running?

To shut down Firefox:
- Hit "Ctrl+Alt+Delete
- Click "Start Task Manager"
- Under "Processes" find "firefox.exe" in the list
- Click "firefox.exe"
- Click "End Process"
This will shut down anything no matter what. I blacked out the user name in the screen shot for Privacy.

Does the issue still occur if you start Firefox in Safe Mode? http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode
Is firefox.exe listed in task manager? Is plugin-container.exe listed?
You should update to Firefox 7.0.1
Thanks, but I have tried this..............it does not work. Firefox does not appear in the Task Manager area once I quit using it. Thank you.
Thank you, but I have had this problem with all Versions of Firefox. I tried to use the latest Version of Firefox, 7.0, but it is missing the Tool Bar with my Mail, Facebook, etc. which is handy to have.
Firefox is not listed in the Task Manager area once I exit Firefox, but keeps running in the Background. This has always been a problem, but worse than ever. I can't Reboot every time I need to clear the Cache......
Again, Thank you.
Is plugin-container.exe listed?
If firefox.exe isn't listed what makes you think it is still running in the "background"?
When I run "CCleaner" or "Advanced System Care" to clean out Files and the Cache, they say that Firefox is Still Running. Consequently, they will not clean out the Files, etc.
Thank you
Is plugin-container.exe listed in task manager when you run into this issue?
No, it is not in the Task Manager area. Thanks.
If neither firefox.exe nor plugin-container.exe are not listed than Firefox is NOT running. It is possible that your a/v or backup software is keeping a lock on the database that Firefox uses to store these values. What a/v and/or backup software are you running.
Avanquest PerfecImage 11 is my Backup Software, but I Manually Start this myself when I want to Back up........it's not automatic.
I have been having this problem with Firefox about every other day, not each day. I had some software running that searches for Browser Trojans all the time, so today I turned it off in case it causes this problem.
Thanks
Yes see if that causes the problem and let us know.
Unfortunately, Nothing has solved the Problem. Can't figure out what would cause it. The Computer, with Vista, says Firefox is not running, but Cleaning Software says It Is Running.
Thank you very much.
Look into CCleaner and Advanced System Care and file a support question because if Firefox is not in task manager it is NOT RUNNING! By the way you mentioned you don't like that Firefox 7.0 because it doesn't have a tool bar with Mail and Facebook try this:
- Make mail etc. bookmarks
- Open the list of bookmarks
- Right click one
- Click "Properties"
- Enter mail or facebook etc. in "Keywords"
- Next time you want to open it just type mail or facebook etc. into the address bar
- Hit enter or click the green arrow however you normally load a webpage when you type it in
- This will open the web page without having to enter the URL
Thank you for this Information. When I start feeling better, I will work on this. Fighting with Insomnia. Thanks.
