How to make tab opening/showing functoin like it did in 3.6

more options

Is there any way to make opening new tabs work how it did in firefox 3.6? The selection on the options in ff8, "switch to new tab when it opens" works on ALL new tabs.

I only want to switch to new tabs if I open one from my bookmarks or from my bookmark toolbar, but I don't want to switch to them if I open a new tab via clicking on a link. Any ideas?

I don't know whether there's a way to go back to the exact behavior from 3.6, but here's one thing you can try instead:

  1. To open a bookmark or link in a new tab, press the "Control" key while clicking on it (or click it with your middle mouse button or your mouse wheel).
  2. To change whether the new tab opens in the background, do the same thing while also holding the "Shift" key.
