Firefox downloads OK but gets about 70% decompressed and then gives message: "You may not have permission to use all features of this program. Do you wish to change users" Then gives me choice of current user or Administrator with password. Neither choice works and process just stops. Other downloads install fine but not Firefox.

Oh sorry, I was looking at the wrong thread when I said 7. Can you please confirm that you are downloading Firefox from one of our sites. getfirefox.com, mozilla.org or mozilla.com. If not, please let me know, it might be that you are downloading firefox from another source other than Mozilla or a Mozilla local community which is what may be causing your problem.

Downloaded from Mozilla.org. Also tried other sites but with the same result.

What browser are you trying to download firefox with?

more options

I used IE 8. In trying to resolve this problem, I also uninstalled Firefox 3 and tried to install Firefox 9. Now I don't have either 3 or 9. I also downloaded the Firefox 9 .exe file to my desktop so that I could try different things to see if the .exe file would install but I still get the same error message no matter what I do. When I set up my laptop originally I made myself the administrator but the error message still gives me 2 user options (current user and administrator with password) to install Firefox but neither works. I wonder if there is something in the register from old Firefox versions that is interfering with the install.

Hmm. I will try and find an alternate way to install for you.

I have the same problem on a Windows 7 Starter machine. Downloaded from mozilla.org, window saying my account may not have administrator privileges (it does), then nothing.
