Thanks. Tried all suggestions. No improvement - in fact it's worse now cannot get to face book at all. Just left @ 'Connecting'.

Please also check if this happens in a new profile with the default settings. If the new profile is okay, you can then Reset Firefox on the old (previous) profile via Help (Alt + H) > Troubleshooting Information.

Firefox is probably not listed as an exception in Windows Firewall.

Control Panel>Windows Firewall>Allow a program or feature through Windows Firewall>Change Settings>Allow another program>Firefox.

Thanks. New profile doesn't fix it. Have reset Firefox. Can now get to Facebook.com but still can't login!

If you have security software, external password managers etc. please see this and this for configuring exceptions for Firefox.

Often you just have to check the most obvious things.

Thanks for all the replies but nothing has resolved the issue so far. Still struggling with this. Have got a Facebook login working by trial and error but cannot pin down problem.

FF 13.0.1 Windows 7

Here's how. (Same results in FF & IE8)

1) Clear all cookies and cache using Windows Control Panel option without saving any site preferences.

2) Facebook will not start from saved bookmark.or via Google lookup to get to login address. It just hangs.

3) Facebook sent an 'Instant Login' link via Hotmail. This hangs if a GOOD password is entered. The trick is to enter a NULL or BAD password and when the error response to this is received from Facebook enter the GOOD password when 'Hey Presto' Facebook connects. So clearly I am reaching Facebook and am not being blocked by any Firewall or PC Security issue. Facebook is responding to login and password data at this point.

4) I can then login and out of Facebook as normal providing the facebook connection remains active.

5) If the Facebook connection is broken or FF or IE closed then I have to go back and repeat this whole process to regain access.

It's as if there is a bad cookie left over from each session that FF and IE are not cleaning up?

Any suggestions this is driving me nuts!

Please try this login page from another PC, preferably a known PC with up-to-date antivirus: https://www.facebook.com/ After signing in you should change the current Facebook password as a precaution, and also activate login approvals, if convenient.
