I have had firefox for a very long time and been using the website, imikimi.com for a very long time both before I had firefox and with firefox and never had issues with the plugin for the imikimi website to be able to use the full editor on the imikimi website. About 3 days ago something changed with firefox on my computer and it no longer is allowing the plugin to work and have contacted the imikimi website twice and have been told that it is an issue with firefox and that something has changed with firefox to cause my problem and they cannot resolve the problem. I was also told that they have been having problems with firefox and their plugin. I can use my husband's laptop and it accesses the website and all the features okay and he does not have firefox. I love my firefox and hope that someone can help me resolve this problem with the plugin.

Chosen solution

Type about:config in the location (address) bar and press the "Enter" key to open the about:config page, just like you open a website by typing the URL in the location bar.

  • If you see a warning message then you can confirm that you want to access the about:config page.
  • use the Search bar at the top of the about:config page to locate preferences more easily
  • preferences that have been modified and do not have the default value show as bold (user set)
  • preferences that are user set (bold) can be reset to the default value via the right-click context menu
  • preferences can be changed via the right-click context menu: Modify (String or Integer) or Toggle (Boolean) or by double-clicking the line with the pref

You can search for plugins.load_appdir_plugins and toggle its value to true with a double-click.

There has been a change in where Firefox searches for plugins and the plugins folder in the Firefox program folder is no longer scanned.
It is possible that plugins are installed in the plugins folder in the Firefox program folder.

You can set the plugins.load_appdir_plugins pref to true on the about:config page to make Firefox scan the "<install>/plugins/" directory for plugins like the WMP plugin (np-mswmp.dll).

You can alternatively move plugins from "<install directory>/plugins/" to <install directory>/browser/plugins/ to make Firefox find them again.

cor-el...I am sure your solution to my problem will work and have been trying to digest the information to complete the task but I am having trouble completing your instructions because I am not completely computer literate but do well when instructed in detail and do not want to move files that I am not sure what I am moving and then cause more problems. I believe I found the imikimi plugin in the "Mozilla Firefox" folder but cannot figure out where to move the plugins to. I cannot find where I am supposed to move the plugins to so the plugins will be found. Is there any more information you can provide me to help me understand. Sorry for being a bit difficult.

cor-el...I cannot thank you enough!!! It took me a while to wrap my mind around your solution to my problem as well as to have the confidence to attempt what you had instructed me to do. After reading your instructions many times it finally made sense to me as to what I needed to do and not be afraid of making changes in my computer for fear I may do something wrong. After following your instructions and making the change I am now able to use the plugin that works with imikimi.com. Have a great day!
