I downloaded Firefox repeatedly and cannot really use it other than typing in a url that I know. I cannot get a google homepage. I cannot delete, add cookies, delete browsing history as is suggested by the error messages. Nothing works or is consistent.

I have no gear icon, no toolbar, no menu bar. It is a very strange setup that I'm looking at.

This is crazy. What the hell happened?

I get the error message that I need to enable cookies and delete browsing history in order to simply create a google home page? Seriously?

This is so odd. And I cannot find controls to perform any functions. I'm using Windows 7

Thanks

While Firefox is closed, delete the localstore.rdf file from your profile folder. When you next start Firefox, the user interface should be reset to the default, and you should see a Firefox button in the top left corner.

To set your homepage, open Options → General.

If that doesn't help, attach a screenshot of the problem.

You can do a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder before (re)installing a fresh copy of the current Firefox release.

Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.

If possible uninstall your current Firefox version to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.

  • Do NOT remove "personal data" when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because this will remove all profile folders and you lose personal data like bookmarks and passwords including data in profiles created by other Firefox versions.

Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.

  • (32 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\"
  • (64 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\"

Your bookmarks and other personal data are stored in the Firefox profile folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure that "remove personal data" is NOT selected when you uninstall Firefox.

If you keep having problems then also create a new profile.
