My former hard disk crashed. On the new one (Windows 7) I have downloaded and installed Thunderbird. When trying to use it, I get the screen with the question 'Do you want a new e-mail address?' I have one, so I click the box 'Skip this and use my existing account'. Then I get the screen 'E-mailaccount-set-up'. I fill out Name, E-mail address and Password (which I double checked with my webhoster). Then the problem arises for I get the message: Thunderbird has not been able to find settings for your e-mailaccount.

Can you please help me to get Thunderbird recognise my existing e-mailaccount? Thanks, Bregje

Did you back up the profile for Thunderbird? Without that, you cannot get back the saved information and messages in your account.

Finitarry, thanks a lot for your answer! I did back up the profile for Thunderbird and had restored it in the proper place. Thanks to your answer, I checked the folder and saw that the file registry.dat was missing. After copying this, everything functioned perfectly. Problem solved!
