attached pdf wont open - problem just started
This week, pdfs attached to e-mail give error message "Download Error, download cannot be saved because an unknown error occurred - try again". On the Download window, the message is "Failed, Mailbox Resource". Yet I can Save the file to desktop and open it.
This problem just started to happen.
Help would be appreciated ... thanks in advace

Problem Solved, Sort of....
I went in and changed the attachment options to use my own Adobe reader instead of the (in Thunderbird) option. Now clicking on the attachment in Thunderbird works fine. There must be something wrong with the Thunderbird reader.

I just started having this same issue a day or two ago. I tried the fix described above and it did not help.
When I click on the attached file in the outgoing mail, nothing happens; when I send the file to myself and click on the attachment at the bottom of the received message I get the following error message: "The download cannot be save because an unknown error occurred. Please try again." But if I manually click on the "Save" button at the right of the attachment bar (or line, or whatever you call it), it does save just fine and will open just fine.
I am running Win7 with all service packs. As I indicated, this problem just popped up very recently, during an interval when I had left the computer on in "sleep" mode but otherwise did not use it. HOWEVER, before trying it after waking up my machine today, I did download and install the latest security updates from micronumb. Could these latest updates be the problem?
Thanks for any assistance anyone can give me.

Additional follow up information:
1. The problem is not limited to pdf files -- I tried the same process but attaching a WordPerfect (.wpd) file and got the exact same results and error messages - the file would not open directly from the email, but if I saved it first I could open it in WordPerfect with no problem. So it is not a .pdf issue. It is definitely something wrong in Thunderbird. AND 2. I tried downloading and reverting to T'bird v.31.2.0 with the same results as with v.31.5.0, so it doesn't appear to be release version specific.
Thanks in advance again.
