Why does Thunderbird crash when I try to add a file to an email>?

Until two days ago I have been able to attach files to emails but now as soon as I try to attach a file the thunderbird crashes and I do not know why. Help!

have you submitted the crash reports? If so, please go to the troubleshooting information on the help menu and post the crash ids

If not please submit them and then post the ids
