Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web Link} by holding down the <Shift>

Do you mean, it opened in safe mode but later crashed? Or do you mean it crashed when you restarted FF normally?

1. Started cleanly in Safe Mode. 2. Closed FF. 3. Attempted to start in Safe Mode again. Crash Reporter opened immediately.

This happened once before in the day. Same pattern.

It could be the work of one of your add-ons. Type about:addons<enter> in the address bar to open your Add-ons Manager. Hot key; <Control>(Mac=<Command>)<Shift> A)

In the Add-ons Manager, on the left, select Extensions. Disable a few add-ons, then Restart Firefox.

Some added toolbar and anti-virus add-ons are known to cause Firefox issues. Disable All of them.

If the problem continues, disable some more (restarting FF). Continue until the problem is gone. After, you know what group is causing the issue. Re-enable the last group ONE AT A TIME (restarting FF) until the problem returns.

Once you think you found the problem, disable that and re-enable all the others, then restart again. Let us know who the suspect is detective.

might be caused by external software - what security software are you running on your device & can you replicate the issue in windows safemode (with networking enabled)? http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/start-computer-safe-mode

Fred: Thank you, was already in "default" appearance, and I did turn off Hardware Acceleration as suggested. No change.

Philipp: Thanks, in Safe Mode it turned on just fine consistently (5 times in a row).

Rebooted, and it started right up. Closed FF, and the problem was back.

Since it did start properly the first time back in normal mode, and then once FF was open then closed... perhaps being in Safe Mode cleaned something up so FF opened fine.

please try to uninstall winpatrol for once and see if this is making a difference.

Wondering why you suspect Winpatrol...as it has been on my system for years without conflict? (I suppose I can say that about everything else on my PC too, huh!)

as i said before, from the kind of crashes at hand i would strongly suspect that it is due to external influence on your system (also confirmed through the safemode experiment). a couple of user comments for this crash report mention emsisoft security software, so this might be the common denominator for people suffering from this crash - if you have it present then you should probably start with looking into that first. another thing that shows up in a number of reports is a module related to Jaksta audio capture - so if you use their software this would be the second avenue of investigation. and i mentioned winpatrol because it is another external factor that is showing up in your crash report as hooking into the firefox process...
