The "Get New Messages" counter keeps going up! I now have 1170+ new messages that were previously deleted. How do I stop these deleted emails from pouring in to my In-Box? I closed my email, then reopened, and new (deleted) emails are still downloading. Who knows where or when it will stop?

2 questions: How do I stop the endless downloading of new, previously deleted emails? How do I prevent this from happening again? I occasionally delete my trash folder and compact.

THANKS for any help.

Who is the email provider? Does this account use POP or IMAP? Are you using any "optimiser" utilities such as CCleaner?

Email provider is Comcast. They use POP. I don't think I am using any "optimiser" utilities. The downloading of new emails stopped at 1956! THANKS for your response!

Your popstate.dat file residing in the account’s subfolder of the Mail subfolder in your profile folder may be corrupt.

Open the profile folder as instructed in the profile article, close Thunderbird, browse to the appropriate file that belongs to the Comcast POP account and delete or move it elsewhere.

Be sure your Inbox mail is safe in case you have Thunderbird set to delete messages after retrieval in the Account Settings. Also, expect the messages to be downloaded again if it is set to leave them.
