The number of processes is normal and is not connected with the startup time. This long time is more than a half of minute?

Firefox opens multiple processes if you're opening multiple tabs. Does your Firefox normally load multiple tabs at startup?

Is there any way to stop this from happening? It is using system memory I don't want it to use. Older versions of FF did not open more than one instance in Task Manager and I liked that behavior better. This acting more like Internet Explorer and I don't use IE unless the WEB Site demands it for some functions like NFCU and Scan Deposits only working on IE>

Type about:config<enter> in the address bar. If a warning screen comes up, press the I Accept the Risk button. At the top of the screen is a search bar. Type browser.startup.homepage

What is the value? Right-click and select Reset to restore its default value; about:home

You can limit the number of content processes to 1, but that still gives a compositor and a main process.

Current Firefox releases have multi-process windows enabled. You may see three or more Firefox processes running.

  • one process for the main Firefox thread (user interface)
  • one or more processes for content threads set via "Options/Preferences -> General -> Performance" (dom.ipc.processCount)
  • one process for the compositor thread (Windows)

You can look in "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) to see the current multi-process state.

  • "Help -> Troubleshooting Information" -> "Application Basics":
    Multiprocess Windows
    Web Content Processes

Hi poiuzt, this is normal: you may find 4-7 firefox.exe processes: 1-3 for the user interface and 1-4 for web pages (content processes).

If you want to reduce the number of content processes, so the total number of processes could come down to 2-4, see: Firefox's performance settings.
