Why did you stupidly get rid of the "Load Previous History" option?

With the latest version of FF, there is no longer the option to load the previous session's tabs. This is even dumber than the update that killed all of my add-ons. If you crash and it doesn't automatically try to recover the previous session, then you are SOL. This was a STUPID change. Are you TRYING to drive users to Chrome? Does anyone know how I can restore this function?

My FF v58.0.1 does NOT have the "Restore Previous Session" option on my menu. My Options are configured to save history, but I don't have the Menu option. It shows:

New Window New Private Window ___________________________ Zoom - 100% + ____________________________ Edit

do you use any external tools on your system (like ccleaner) that might interfere here?

No. And the "Restore Previous Session" option just disappeared when the v58 update installed. Is there an about:config option that toggles that option?

My Menu doesn't have that option after v58 installed.

hm, this is strange - even when i set firefox to never store history or throw it away on exit i get that icon in the menubar (but greyed out in this case).

would it be showing up when you launch firefox in safemode once? Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems

There is no difference starting in Safe Mode. Still no "Restore Previous Session" on the FF Menu.

Hi, This will shine a light on the 'mystery' : http://techdows.com/2017/09/firefox-57-restore-previous-session-item-in-menu.html

Am I the only person who thinks that is exceedingly stupid?

The only time I need it is when FF hasn't restored the previous session after a crash. But in order to have it active, I have to set FF to NOT restore previous tabs as a matter of course. What MORON decided THAT was a good idea?

Make sure you do not run Firefox in permanent Private Browsing mode (Always use Private Browsing mode; Never Remember History).

  • Options/Preferences -> Privacy & Security -> Firefox will: "Use custom settings for history"
  • remove checkmark: [ ] "Always use Private Browsing mode"

In case you use "Clear history when Firefox closes".

  • do not clear the Browsing History
  • clearing "Site Preferences" clears exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, and software installation and exception for password and other website specific data
  • clearing "Cookies" will remove all selected cookies including cookies with an "Allow" exception you may want to keep

I wouldn't know, as I this is the first time I've heard about this phenomenon.

I think that it might raise quite a few eyebrows, but there will undoubtedly be a good reason for this procedure , which I haven't found yet myself ....

For those, like me, who were inconvenienced by "Tab Mix Plus" no longer working in the newer versions, here's a workaround:

You can set this pref to 1 on the about:config page to have a restore session button on the Tab bar.

  • browser.tabs.restorebutton = 1

You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click "I accept the risk!" to continue.

I did that, with no change. I also just installed the v58.0.2 update, with no change. I think my FF hates me.

See what it says here :

http://techdows.com/2017/09/firefox-57-restore-previous-session-item-in-menu.html

"For Firefox users, who have automatic session restore turned on, Restore Previous Session menu item won’t appear in the application menu. "

I read that and followed the directions. I STILL don't get the "RPS" option. I haven't seen it after a crash yet, but nothing has changed as far as I can see.

Are you sure you're looking the right place? I still have it and used it to start this session a few minutes ago.
