When I am using Firefox but want to switch to Private Browsing, I am told that Control + Shift + P should bring up the private window. Doing that key combination does nothing. To get to private browsing, I instead go to File, then select New Private Window.

What shortcut does it show in the File menu for New Private Window ?

Start Firefox in Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration or userChrome.css is causing the problem.

  • switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Themes
  • do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Troubleshoot Mode start window

doing that does not get the key combination to work. The shortcut is as I mentioned ... Oh wait. I see what the issue is. I believe this to be a bug. Up to this point, I ALWAYS use my left hand to press and hold control and the shift keys, then I press the P key. That is what I do. I was shocked to try right shift and control key then press the P key. This is not a natural movement for me, pressing 3 keys with the same hand. I found that the RIGHT SHIFT, RIGHT CONTROL and P causes the window to open. So therefore, they keys are selective, but undocumented to be so. For myself, I would prefer the key-presses to be ANY combination of shift, control and P.

I see how to do it, to me, this problem is still unsolved.
