I'm not sure when this problem started but I've been using a dysfunctional YouTube for weeks now. I've followed several guides in hopes to fixing this but nothing has helped as of yet. This includes the guides: on MozillaZine "Error loading websites", "Websites look wrong", "Images or animations do not load", and on support.mozilla "Firefox cannot load websites but other programs can". I'm using the latest version of Firefox as a portable application from PortableApps.

What doesn't work on YouTube: - Clicking the "Search" button after typing in a query. -- Instead I need to press Enter to search. - Clicking on my username to access its dropdown box that has options like Favorites etc. - Clicking the "Add To" button beneath a video to add a video to your Favorites. - Clicking the description box beneath a video to open the description box. - Clicking the "Subscribe" button above a video. - Clicking the videos button above a video to view what other videos the user has uploaded. - Clicking Thumbs Up/Down both below the video. - Clicking Thumbs Up/Down on user comments. - When I try playing all of my favorites by selecting "Play all" in the Favorites section and the first video has ended it won't go to the next video also won't display YouTube's new-ish playlist bar that is usually locked at the base of the website. - None/majority of thumbnails do not load. Their image is "http://s.ytimg.com/yt/img/pixel-vfl3z5WfW.gif" but I think that is just the website's default thing. Maybe useful?

What does work on YouTube: - Loading pages (disregarding the above). - Loading videos. - Search feature through the work around above. - Logging in and out of YouTube.

What I've tried and didn't work: - On NoScript Allowing: youtube.com & ytimg.com and anything related to YouTube (nothing else) - Disabling AdBlock Plus on YouTube - Disabling AdBlock Plus all together - Restarting Firefox - Forced reload on YouTube by pressing ctrl + F5 and Shift + clicking the reload button. - Clearing my cache and cookies. Going to Tools/Options/Advanced/Network/Clear Now | Tools/Clear Recent History/Checking all boxes/Clear Now | Tools/View All Cookies/Remove All Cookies - Resetting the network.http.pipelining value in about:config. about:config/filter: network.http.pipelining/right click Reset

- My firewall COMODO allows Firefox access to the internet. - Scanning my computer for malware (viruses, adware, etc.). I use Avira, Spybot S&D, SUPERAntiSpyware, COMODO Firewall, and MBAM to assure my system is protected. I also use the add-ons AdBlock Plus, NoScript, and Web of Trust (WOT) for further protection. This shouldn't be an issue since YouTube works fine in other browsers including Microsoft Internet Explorer and Google Chrome.

I love Firefox! I just don't understand why YouTube doesn't function properly as it once has. It sounds like a javascript issue oddly only dealing with YouTube in Firefox for me any other website is fine. I haven't tried SafeMode I'm not sure what to look for/how to work it. I'd appreciate your help in the solution to my problem!

Check the pref dom.storage.enabled on the about:config page and make sure that the pref is set to true.

To open the about:config page, type about:config in the location (address) bar and press the "Enter" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.

It worked for me:

Add this line to your windows HOSTS file:

74.125.162.39 static.cache.l.google.com s.ytimg.com

In windows 7 / Vista, it is located in C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc (Changing your hosts file in Vista

By default, if you try to modify your hosts file in Vista, it will not let you save it. It tells you that you don't have permission. To successfully modify the hosts file, run notepad.exe as an administrator and open the file.

1) Browse to Start -> All Programs -> Accessories 2) Right click "Notepad" and select "Run as administrator" 3) Click "Continue" on the UAC prompt 4) Click File -> Open 5) Browse to "C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc" 6) Change the file filter drop down box from "Text Documents (*.txt)" to "All Files (*.*)" 7) Select "hosts" and click "Open" 8) Make the needed changes and close Notepad. Save when prompted.)

If you're having the same problem try cor-el's reply this may help. Otherwise update your add-ons like NoScript and/or AdBlock Plus. Thank you for your helpful replies!

@ szlaci07 : I don't believe this would solve this sort of situation since your post deals outside of the Firefox browser and I mentioned that YouTube works on other browsers. Thanks for your reply though perhaps others will find it helpful.
