I did a GOOGLE Search through Firefox...and was repeatedly re-directed to tazinga or some other inappropriate merchandising site...how do I configure Firefox to block these kinds of annoying and time wasting sites..

I just GOOGLED the Globe and Mail and was "redirected" to or 'jumped" to http://itcg.21426.search-goals.com/jump2/?affiliate=itcg&subid=21426&terms=globe

and tried again and was "redirected" or "jumped" to

http://www.yellowmoxie.com/nmlist.php?keywords=Globe&typetag=80005&nw=no&campaign=LS_YM_HHH_RON& sid=1f2c2ef5342d91a8be2a818ece7ffe

and then GOOGLED CANADIAN GUN NUTZ and was redirected or jumped to http://mx2.33372.expand-search-goals.com/jump2/?affiliate=mx2&subid=33372&terms=canadiangunnutz

Sounds like you picked up some search redirect Malware.

Install, update, and run these programs in this order. (Not all programs detect the same Malware.) They are all free for personal use, but some have limited functionality in the "free mode" - but those are features you really don't need to find and remove the problem that you have.
Note: If your Malware infection is bad enough and you are mis-directed to URL's other than what is posted, you may have to use a different PC to download these programs and use a USB stick to transfer them to the afflicted PC.
