Downloaded Firefox 4 and wish I hadn't. It does not work as demonstrated. Firstly, there is no Firefox button. Other features such as creating groups also don't work as demonstrated.

Hide the menu bar.

You are using Windows XP and not Vista or 7 as to why no Firefox button.

Hi, James Thanks for your quick reply. I didn't see anywhere that Firefox 4 was only for Vista or 7 users. Can you tell me how to revert to my previous Firefox version?

The orange Firefox menu button is hidden by default on Windows XP.
You see the orange (on Linux gray) Firefox button if the Menu Bar is hidden, so you need to hide the Menu bar to get the new appearance.
If you need to access the hidden Menu bar then press F10 or hold down the Alt key to make the Menu Bar appear temporarily.
You can place the Tab Bar on top.

  • View > Toolbars : [ ] Menu Bar
  • View > Toolbars : [X] Tabs on Top

Thank you, cor-el. I'll download 4 again. So many new features!

I'm disappointed though that there is no down arrow head beside forward and back to take me back to the front page of a multi-page article. Is that hidden too, or is there another way?

Appreciate your help.

Kind regards.

The down arrow was more cosmetic. Either right-click or left-click and hold.

If you gotta have the Back / Forward drop-marker arrow button:

A few more extensions to bring some lost features back:

If you need to access some menu entries frequently then look at this extension to add them to the (orange) Firefox button menu.

Firefox 4 uses a combined Stop/Reload/Go button that is positioned at the right end of the location bar.
During the page load process it shows as a Stop button and after the loading has finished the button is changed to a Reload button.
If you type in the location bar then that button becomes a Go button.
You can middle-click that Reload button to duplicate the current tab to a new tab.

Firefox 4 saves the previous session automatically, so there is no longer the dialog asking if you want to save the current session.
You can use "Firefox > History > Restore Previous Session" to get the previous session.
There is also a "Restore Previous Session" button on the default about:home Home page.

Wow! So many features, so much to learn. I'll be checking out if I can afford to upgrade to Windows 7 so that Firefox 4 can operate at its full capacity. All very exciting.

Many thanks, cor-el, for your interest and assistance. Very much appreciated.

Hi! I have Vista and just downloaded 4.0.1.

I don't have the orange Firefox button either. How do I get it?

Sorry, misread it; thought that was for XP only.

Did it. Success! Thank you.
