Hyperlinks don't load if Firefox is already running and Firefox is set as default browser.

I have tried the double switch making IE my default browser and back to FF. My Protocols are already set to FF in Control Panel. Regedit has no entries in HKCR\FirefoxURL\shell\open\ddeexec and I tried removing the command line options in HKCR\FirefoxURL\shell\open\command and nothing has worked yet. It started with the update to 16.0.2 which I am currently running on Windows 7. Clicking on a hyperlink outside of FF just produces the message "Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To open a new window, you must first close the existing Firefox process, or restart your system."

If I close FF and click on a hyperlink FF loads the link properly. I hate to go back 3 or 4 version levels just to get things to work. They should work before a new version is released.

Any ideas?

You can check for problems related to DDE if you are talking about opening links in other programs.

Thanks for the response but the problem is when FF is already running. If FF isn't running clicking on any link outside of FF DDE opens FF and the link as it should. When FF is running it should open the link in a new tab but I get the message "Firefox is already running, but is not responding." So it appears DDE is trying to do it's thing but FF is responding incorrectly.
