Websites won't display properly, clearing cache and cookies only helps temporarely. how can i fix this?

Ever since i downloaded firefox on my brand new laptop, i have been having a reoccuring problem. ill be using the browser, and all of a sudden most websites dont function properly. there is no formatting or anything. facebook will just display the tool bar and i cant use it, youtube just shows all the writing in regular black font in a list on the left hand side, and kongregate.com is the same as youtube. to fix this i have cleared my cache and cookies and this has been only a temporary fix, as in, it only works for about an hour and it happens again. it is getting really irritating. refreshing it multiple times does not work either.

Reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.

  • Hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
  • Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
  • Press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)

Did you check your security software (firewall, anti-virus) to make sure that it isn't causing this problem?

Boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that helps.

Try to delete the entire history on the computer.

Okay, so i tried the Shift+Left click solution, but it only brought back some of the missing images.

And for firefoxhelper123, what do you mean by "history"? I have deleted all the history, cookies, and cache a few times since i first downloaded firefox, but the problem keeps coming back. I am going to go delete everything again, and I'll let you know if that helps permanently or not

You can check for problems with preferences.
Rename or delete the prefs.js file and possible numbered prefs-##.js files and a possible user.js file to reset all prefs to the default value.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

See "Creating a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer some files from an existing profile to the new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

I'm not sure, I hope it works. If it doesn't, then try the "new private window" feature. It won't record anything, so it might help.

I looked at the links that cor-el posted, and i ended up putting Firefox back to factory settings. the problem is still occurring. i didn't quite understand the whole thing about profiles.

So, no more helpful advice? should i just uninstall firefox and just use chrome instead? i have always used firefox on windows vista and windows 7, but on windows 8 i am still having this stupid issue. i have reset it to manufacture defaults, i have deleted my entire web history multiple times, and yet it has yet to solve problems. i am not experiencing the same issue on chrome or internet explorer, it is just firefox.

Does it have any effect if you boot Windows in Safe Mode with network support?

Files don't get corrupted by themselves and a likely cause for corruption on the Windows platform is security software.
