Restore Session doesn't work; Firefox opens 4 other tabs instead
In Options, General, I selected to Restore My Windows and Tabs from last time, and set the home page to Yahoo. It was that way for years. Yahoo is my home page until I close the browser. Starting a month or so ago, each time I close the session is not restored, nor is Yahoo my home page anymore. Instead, 4 tabs open: Welcome to Firefox, Mozilla Firefox Start Page, a WOT explanation (one of my extensions), and a new tab.
The first time it happened, I went to Options, and the ones in General have changed - home page is set to Mozilla instead of Yahoo, and When FireFox starts now has to open the homepage instead of to open my previous tabs. It doesn't matter if it's before a Windows reboot or if I just close the browser and immediately reopen it.
I've read of many others having issues with system restore; only one has found a solution and his issue was not the same as mine - it also involves making changes I'm not comfortable making.
Any ideas? Given that I've spent an hour searching and no one seems to have resolved this, I think I may be moving to Chrome....not what I want to do, but this is not good.

You can check for problems with preferences.
Delete a possible user.js file and numbered prefs-##.js files and rename (or delete) the prefs.js file to reset all prefs to the default value including prefs set via user.js and prefs that are no longer supported in the current Firefox release.

Thank you. If anyone else reads this, the directions were not clear to me. There were two folders with prefs.js files. There was nothing wrong with the one folder's file, so I thought this didn't work. Then I decided to look in the other folder for some reason and I found many of them, all numbered in succession. After closing Firefox, deleting the extras, and renaming the remaining/original one to OLD, then restarting Firefox and resetting my preferences, it worked.
