Became Not Responding while in SAFE MODE
After spending weeks and over 100 man hours farting around blaming Add-Ons, this problem occurred in SAFE MODE.
IIRC this is the Console Error showing:

I found an add-on that will Clear Caches, so I'll see if invoking that every once in a while helps.
But its still giving runaway script errors.
Hello,
Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a Clean reinstall. This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:
Note: You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.
- Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
- After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu).
- Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
- Windows:
- C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
- C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
- Mac: Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
- Linux: If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see Install Firefox on Linux. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the Firefox download page, simply remove the folder firefox in your home directory.
- Windows:
- Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
- Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
- Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
More information about reinstalling Firefox can be found here.
WARNING: Do not run Firefox's uninstaller or use a third party remover as part of this process, because that could permanently delete your Firefox data, including but not limited to, extensions, cache, cookies, bookmarks, personal settings and saved passwords. These cannot be easily recovered unless they have been backed up to an external device!
Please report back to say if this helped you!
Thank you.
Oh I did a clean reinstall sometime during that 100+ hours of wasting my time. Then I added fewer add-ons, only the one's I really really need like the privacy protectors and the Session Manager.
IMO, a clean reinstall includes a new Profile, (and on a Windows OS, cleaning of the Registry)! Most of the time the users choice of add-ons is what causes these problems; disabling or removing add-ons doesn't remove all traces of most add-ons. IMO, if the user has more than 10 extensions installed, they're better off with a new Profile (or one they backed up before their problems started), than wasting their time trying to fix a problem brought on by their choice of add-ons.
On any operating the first diagnostic procedure should involve the Firefox SafeMode. After that is the time to start troubleshooting for problems with add-ons.
Reading the Crash Reports is an important part of the diagnostic process, too.
As far as "privacy protectors" goes, "more isn't better". If those extensions provide similar features they may not interact well together, and may create conflicts or even lessen "privacy".
Running in normal mode w/ essential addons.
Then it seems to slow down, when switching windows (maybe not between tabs though).
So I invoke the Clear Cache addon frequently.
Then the spinner comes up, and its Not Responsive, and the Real Memory has increased from 3.6 GB to 4 GB.
After spinning for 5-10 minutes, Real Memory is up to 4.5 GB.
Don't blame the addons. They are necessary & if this version suddenly does not work with addons that previously worked, its not the addons fault.
I think there is fundamentally a problem with dealing with Scripts. If you have enough Tabs open, there will ALWAYS be a script that runs away. And FF must deal with it without locking up.
Now the spinner is coming up for about 30 seconds when I type the first letter of a URL. Then when the spinner stops, the letter is not in the URL pane.
Am I right in concluding that the cache of tab content is kept in Real Memory?
Because when I restarted, it did the crash recovery process of opening up all the tabs. But I have it set to NOT load the tab until I bring that tab to the front. So right now Real Memory is under a GB (about 900 MB).
I also have the about:memory tab open & once in a while I invoke the Minimize Memory function -- of course I can't do that once the spinner comes up.
I think I have figure out one way that a script can get started & out of control.
When I click on a URL in my email, FF comes to the front. BUT my cursor is still in the same location on the screen.
If that location is on top of something on the original FF page which starts a script by hovering, it can become invoked (maybe improperly) before FF creates a new Window to open the URL I clicked upon.
You have
Flash Block 4.20.13 ({95ab36d4-fb6f-47b0-8b8d-e5f3bd547953}) (Inactive) AND Flashblock 1.5.17 ({3d7eb24f-2740-49df-8937-200b1cc08f8a}) (Inactive)
While they and others are disabled, they may still cause issues.
ok, I judt removed them.
Opening a new Window takes about 30 seconds; Not Responding during that time.
Tabs open faster, but usually still a delay although still "responsive."
Just had a script error that cites "ramback" as running for a long time.
I have the about:memory tab open; is "ramback" the script that minimizes memory usage? It should certainly not be running for any reason unless I click on the button to start it !!!
OK, not its not only Not Responding, but the drop-down window under the URL bar is "stuck" on top. Even when I switch to another app, that menu is on top of my screen making it impossible to use other apps while I wait for FF to become not brain dead.
And just a while ago, when I tried to drag a Tab out of the tab bar to make it into a new Window -- same thing happened.
Something is effed up with the window creation part of FF.
You can try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.
- Firefox > Preferences > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"
You need close and restart Firefox after toggling this setting.
No, did that months ago.
And it took several minutes for this window to open after clicking the email link -- and then I could not type ANYTHING into it -- window not responsive to keyboard or trackpad.
Finally I closed the window & used a different window. Wasted another 5 minutes of my life with this crappy app.
fuck. and FUCK!

VerizonSucks:
The site was shut down for unexpected maintenance. It should be up and working again.
No, the problem has nothing to do with a site not connecting properly.
I refreshed THIS tab, and it happened instantly.
Then at 12:58:xx I opened a new window, and it took a couple of minutes, and FF locked itself up while doing so. The "virtual address" changes, but the error type is the same. And this error type has been happening for MONTHS.
