I had backed up my bookmarks using firefox sync, I do not have the old computer with me anymore, now I am trying to restore my bookmarks to a new computer, how do I do it ? on trying to restore it firefox sync asks me for a recovery key, i do not have it..

Sync is not a backup service. If you don't have a recovery key there is no way to get the data currently on Sync. (It's a recovery feature).

Also, you are using an ancient version of Firefox. Please update to Firefox 31 ASAP Update Firefox to the latest release
