Refreshed Firefox and it does not work properly

after refreshing, Firefox barely works. All bookmarks gone and cannot reinstall from old data file on desktop. Cannot make new bookmarks, no history created. Looks like I need to totally remove via Windows and reinstall. Last time I did that there were still vestiges after reinstalling. Anything I need to know about reinstalling? All history and bookmarks should be available via Old Data right/
