What prevents Firefox from updating securely?
I continue to randomly get two 'Software Update' popups with 'Update Failed' messages. They state:
"Something is trying to trick Firefox into accepting an insecure update. Please contact your network provider and seek help."
"Something is preventing Firefox from updating securely. please make sure you have the latest version of Firefox from: https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/"
I randomly get them whether or not an update is actually available. Usually once a week or so. When an update is available, I am unable to download and install it. I have uninstalled and performed two clean Firefox installs in order to update the browser and in the hopes to fix this issue. The first time restored all the files from the previous profile folder and the issue returned. The second time, I only copied the files containing my bookmarks, logins, key, and cert info. Still I continue to get the update error messages. Any suggestions on how to resolve this problem?

Attached are screenshots of the two errors. I have searched many forums without any solid info about how to fix either of these errors.
Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide!
You can check this thread:
Try to reset the prefs by deleting the prefs.js file in the Firefox profile folder.
If there are problems with updating or with the permissions then best is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.
Download a new copy of the Firefox application and save the disk image file to the desktop
- Firefox 38.0.1: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/
- Trash the current Firefox application (open the Applications folder in the Finder and drag the Firefox application to the Trash) to do a clean (re)install
- Install the new version that you have downloaded

Your personal data is stored elsewhere in the Firefox profile folder, so you won't lose your bookmarks and other personal data when you uninstall and (re)install or update Firefox.
Thank you for the reply cor-el!
I have performed a clean install twice already without luck. I also previously followed the prefs.js file tutorial.
I have not tried the certs method explained in question 919214 but I am also not exactly sure what to replace the current data with.
