Recently updated to Firefox 42.0 and have customised my settings (home page, background, toolbar). When I close down Firefox these settings are not staying

Recently updated to Firefox 42.0 on my PC and have customised my settings (home page, background, toolbar). When I close down Firefox and later re-open it these settings are not staying, they revert back to the default settings.

Note: Some software, like Advanced SystemCare with Surfing Protection, can protect files in the Firefox profile folder against changes. If you have such software then check the settings or uninstall this software.
