Forabout four months, I have not been able to sign in to verizonwireless with FF. IE works, but I hate it!

When attempting to sign on, the site accepts my username, but rejects the sign-on after I enter my password. I've gone thru the password-reset routine several times, but it doesn't change the result. For about the same length of time, I've been having a weird problem with the site for chase.com, but only when I try to make an online payment. I can sign on, review my account, etc. and all is fine. I try to make a payment, and the site just starts acting strange, and I can never get the payment recognized. Chase support people have no help whatsoever. Again, IE works. I've always got the latest version of FF (and everything else, I think) installed.

This issue can be caused by corrupted cookies or cookies that are blocked.

Clear the cache and remove the cookies from websites that cause problems via the "3-bar" Firefox menu button (Options/Preferences).

"Clear the cache":

  • Firefox/Options/Preferences -> Advanced -> Network -> Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"

"Remove the cookies" from websites that cause problems.

  • Firefox/Options/Preferences -> Privacy -> "Use custom settings for history" -> Cookies: "Show Cookies"

If clearing cookies didn't help then it is possible that the cookies.sqlite file in the profile folder that stores the cookies got corrupted.

  • Rename/remove cookies.sqlite (cookies.sqlite.old) and if present delete cookies.sqlite-shm and cookies.sqlite-wal in the Firefox profile folder in case cookies.sqlite got corrupted.

You can use this button to go to the current Firefox profile folder:

No change. Yet. I was unable to follow the instructions near the end to rename or delete the three cookies files, because the files were in use by FF (of course).

Sometimes I long for the days of PC-DOS... but not for long!

Open the Firefox profile folder. Then Close Firefox. Now delete the files.
