Thunderbird keeps deleting all my emails over 2000 in number. I have done the account settings setups a dozen times and they are ignored. A couple weeks ago my setting for disk space of "Don't delete any messages" began being ignored. Thunderbird now always deletes the number to 2000 each day. So I selected the "Delete all but the most recent 25000 messages" and it still deletes down to 2000. I tried the other options and the result is always the same, Thunderbird deletes to 2000. Have I been infected? I'm thinking this is a Thunderbird bug that a lot of other users are experiencing. Can I reinstall Thunderbird without losing my emails? Have others complained about this. My updates are up to date and I'm using Windows 7. Any ideas anybody? Thanks.

Are you sure it is not your provider deleting messages? Check their retention settings on their site.

Comcast is my ISP. How can Comcast control the setups on my local Thunderbird email client? It's my local email software that controls whether I delete the email messages in my provider's server inbox or allow them to remain there. But I did just check my provider's website inbox and found that I had recently, for test purposes, changed my Thunderbird client's account setup to allow the messages to be retained there, I saw that the inbox there had some 1930 messages in it. I deleted them and then went back to my client Thunderbird program and unchecked the Leave Messages on Server box. So now I'll watch to see if that has an effect. But if it does then there's something illogical going on here. My local inbox should not be affected by whatever is happening at the Comcast website server. I will report my result here in a couple days or less. Thanks for your comments.
