Slow delete of messages in Thunderbird

My Thunderbird is taking a very long time - four or five seconds - to delete an individual message in my Inbox. It doesn't take very long if the message is in another folder. The Inbox is not huge: less than 3000 messages. Environment is Windows 10. I have Norton 360, and thought that could be the problem, but turning Norton off doesn't change the situation.

Izabrano rješenje

I emptied the Trash and Junk folders for that account. That seems to have fixed the problem.
