In a support item, I found one that seemed to fit my question. It offered three ways to open Account Settings. 1) Go to Tools/Account Settings in the Menu. 2) Select an account and look for "settings" in the right hand pane and 3) Right-click and account and select "settings" from the pop-up menu. #2 and #3 got me a screen that seemed to "fit" what I want to do and had a "Manage Identities" choice. When I clicked on that, the choices are "Add", "Edit", "Set as Default", "Delete" and "Close."

Unfortunately, "Delete" is the only choice that CANNOT be selected.

Any other help on how to delete an unused Thunderbird account will be appreciated.

Right click the account in the Folder Pane on the left side of the screen and select Settings. When Account Settings screen opens select the account you want to remove by left clicking it once. Go to the bottom of the account list on the left side and select Account Actions. Select Remove Account.

When you remove the account the messages in that account go too. This surprises some people for some reason. If you have messages in this account that you want to keep, make folders under the Thunderbird Local Folders account and move them there before removing the account.
