Pop-up in Mozilla with Critical warning and phone number... fraud?

more options

A pop-up from Mozilla said 'Mozilla Firefox Critical Error!' with a phone number to call (message said to call Microsoft support). I called the phone number, believed the representative, gave him remote access to my computer (over 1 hr.). Was told the were hacker files in my system and they installed new virus protection and disabled the virus protection I had on my system. Found out this is a ploy hackers use to steal info. Does Mozilla activate a pop-up warning as mentioned above? ... or have I been scammed?

. Whenever you get a message / popup like that;

DO NOT USE ANY OF THE PROVIDED LINKS OR ANY PHONE NUMBERS ! !

Such messages are only Spam that could lead you to Fake Support. Not only can they damage or hack your system, they charge you to do so.

You can report such a site at; Google Report Phishing Page {web link} which is the same when done while on site by going to Help > Report Web Forgery

Help us safeguard Mozilla’s trademarks by reporting misuse {web link}

No Mozilla has nothing to do with it as this sort of Scam as variations of this has been around for years in attacking various web browsers by way of malvertising ads.

Hi wtfdsp, you can start a new question about Yahoo using the "Get Community Support" link at the top of each page on this site. That is the new wording for "Ask a Question."
