I log into my Uni remote Library link, choose the paper I want, click download and the begins opening tabs 20-30 or more, but the document doesn't download. I can't stop it happening. I have to close Firefox or 'end task' in Task Manager. Any ideas?

Unfortunately, Firefox has been assigned to open a content type it can't handle. To clear that up, see the steps in this article (not the complete Refresh, try the other suggestions): Firefox repeatedly opens empty tabs or windows after you click on a link.

It has turned out to be a much simpler a fix. The Default App list in Windows control panel had been changed for .PDF files from Adobe to Firefox. Don't know how, a techie friend tells me this can happen sometimes with rogue apps (I'm not adventurous) or on a Window update. So...

I went into settings, searched for Default App, amended the entry in the list for .PDF files BACK to Adobe and it was all fixed!

But thanks for your attention! It could have got very sticky! I have gigabytes of .PDF files downloaded for my research. :0
