are you using TLS/SSL conection encryption. Thunderbird 78 requires version 1.2 or higher of TLS. For some reason lots of mail administrators appear to have missed the web wide deprecation of these old version by Microsoft, Google, Apple and Mozilla. So you might want to check that.
