I use Thunderbird on my desktop all the time. Is there a way to share the calendar from my desktop to thunderbird on my laptop? Maybe even my phone too?

The best approach is to set up a calendar on a web site and share that on all devices. Google, yahoo and GMX/mail are all common web providers that offer free caldav calendars which can be shared. The google one probably has the most users, so the most folk with experience to ask questions of.
