I am trying to add my sky/yahoo mail account even though all settings and pasword etc are correct still returns message saying they are not - I had no problem with adding gmail acc. is there a problem with thunderbird - yahoo mail provider

Are you using the sky.com servers or the yahoo servers? For the former, generate an app password and use it with 'normal password' authentication in TB in place of the account password:

For the latter, use OAuth2 authentication and enter the account password in the OAuth window when asked to allow TB access:

Yahoo requires a unique password for access via email clients. You need to log into your Yahoo account and create a third-party app password.

thank you thought it would solve the problem, followed the instructions on creating a password but doesn't give me the option, it's supposed to be on the security page ???

thank you for your trouble David, i have tried this route but on the security page associated with my account the option to create a password is not available. I am going to take up the issue with Yahoo but I don't have much faith in them.

This worked using the get started skymail gave me access to the password selection thank you
